It’s also advisable to increase your following distance from the vehicles in front of you. With the roads being slippery, reaction time is much different and giving yourself enough space is of the highest importance. 

Utilize a Manageable Speed and Avoid Using Cruise Control 

While your windshield wipers will aid in visibility on the road ahead, the uncertainty that exists in front of you is always present during a rainstorm. Even if you’re late for an event, it’s advisable that you maintain a speed that’s manageable to give you a gap in the reaction time. If you’re driving on the highway, it’s best to avoid using cruise control. Cruise control is effective in dry driving conditions, but wet roads can cause you to lose traction easily. 

Be Aware of Larger Vehicles Near You 

If giving the other cars and SUVs on the road with you a notable amount of following distance is recommended, then doing the same for larger vehicles such as semi-trucks and tankers is an absolute necessity. These vehicles are hindered by driving in the rain just as you are, but their reaction time is a lot slower than someone in a smaller vehicle. Be safe out there.
