Safely Share the Road with Big Vehicles

One of the largest fears that interstate drivers have is sharing the interstate with large vehicles, such as big rig trucks. It’s no small fear. Insurance companies estimate that big rigs are involved in over 500,000 accidents each year that results in 5000 deaths. If you are worried about being safe on the road in your vehicle, here are some suggestions for safety while driving.

Driving Safely with Big Trucks

The first best step for you to consider is to give all of the larger vehicles, such as RVs, big trucks, and buses space to move. If you consider that while driving, you need three seconds between cars, you need to move to five seconds for large vehicles. This will ensure that trucks have all of the space they need.

Next, you will want to be careful when you pass trucks, buses and RVs. Be sure that you check your mirrors, and give the large vehicles plenty of room, especially when you are passing them. You need to remember that trucks and RVs don’t stop on a dime, and need room to move around. Also, remember that trucks need a wide berth to turn, so be sure and stay out of their way.

If you drive on freeways or interstates often, you need to be careful with trucks and other large vehicles entering and exiting the interstate. Trucks need plenty of room to move onto the interstate. Be sure that you move over or change lanes if possible to give the trucks plenty of room. The more space you have, the easier it will be for you to get out of the way if something unforeseen happens.
