The most ideal type of travel for a person with pets is traveling by car. A cat or dog can easily ride along when you are behind the wheel. Some pets would even rather be in a car than at home. Even though pets can ride in cars, you need to make sure they are riding safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be sure your pets are safe during your travels, prepare a checklist of necessary items. Some things to consider are a carrier, harness, or pet car seat; a car seat cover; towels;  a leash with a body harness; water and food dishes; and a portable litter tray. If your pet may experience anxiety or motion sickness being on the road, bring some medications to help them feel more comfortable. You also want to have your pet’s ID and vaccination tags on hand. Lastly, write down the number for the National Animal Poison Control Center: (888) 426-4435.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The items just mentioned are ideal to keep your pet safe, but you also want your furry friend to have fun on the road with you. Some other items to add to the checklist are toys, a pet bed, and treats to keep your pet entertained and comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your road trip involves crossing the border to Canada or Mexico, your pet will need to meet certain requirements. All pets traveling internationally should have a pet passport, health certification, be microchipped, and be up to date on their vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you plan your trip with your pet, take note of the various hotels that are pet friendly. Several national hotel chains are dog friendly.
